KUDOS FOR ONE CHRISTMAS CAROL
as published in the Canmore Leader - Dec. 16th, 2009
Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" has been one of our Christmas traditions since we were children. Every year we faithfully watch the Alastair Sim movie(in black & white, of course, not the colourized version) and mentally recite each line. This is without a doubt the definitive film production and has never been equalled by the many other attempts.
This year we have been treated to a new production that matches the brilliance of this classic movie. It is Cornerstone Theatre's "One Christmas Carol" starring Joe Morris as Scrooge and 32 other characters. In a mesmerizing performance Joe brings Dickens' masterpiece to life. Despite the start set (three chairs) we were able to see the cold counting house, the Crathchit's humble home, the "horn of plenty" surrounding the Spirit of Christmas Present and the lonely graveyard. Every character was unique, each with its own voice and appearance. "Brilliant" is the only word that can describe Morris's performance.
The lighting, sound and special effects were just perfect for the transformation of the setting and characters. Again, a brilliant job by all those involved behind the scenes. We could not have enjoyed a performance more. Kudos to all!
We hope this play will become an annual production at Cornerstone and foster a new tradition for our family and our town. We are blessed to have such talent in our community - blessed, every one.
